Dr. Safaa Karaki Aldwaik is the Director of the GIS and IT Department at Ramallah Municipality and the City's Chief Technology Officer. She holds two master's degrees and a Ph.D. in GIS, Remote Sensing, and Sustainability Science from Clark University in Massachusetts, USA. Aldwaik has authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and has received several awards, including the Special Achievement in GIS Award from ESRI. In addition to her academic achievements, Aldwaik established the first GIS Municipal System in Palestine and currently leads the Ramallah Smart City project. Her areas of expertise include Digitalization, Geographic Information Science, Electronic Services, Spatial Statistics, and Disaster Risk Management. Additionally, she serves on several influential boards, including the UN Global Homelessness Data Initiative Advisory Committee, the UCLG-MEWA Committee on Smart Cities, and the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization.
Being a mother of five children has not prevented Aldwaik from being a standout example of women's engagement in science, technology, and public service.
